Engelberg ski camp: A week full of experiences
Early in the morning, the class waits at Goldach railway station – wearing their ski outfits, the atmosphere is exuberant. Their destination: Engelberg in Central Switzerland via Lucerne. After an easy journey by public transport, the valley opens up and offers an unobstructed view of snow-covered peaks. Anticipation is running high: The ski camp in Engelberg can begin.

Straight to the slopes – time for adventure
Right upon arrival, everyone heads straight to the snow sports resort. It may be foggy over the valley, but the anticipation makes it easy to forget. We just want to get on our skis! Whether beginners or advanced skiers, at the Engelberg-Titlis ski resort, everyone finds their rhythm. Small falls are cause for laughter and those who nail their first turn are celebrated.

In the late afternoon, it’s off to Engelberg Youth Hostel, where we check into our rooms and fill our growling stomachs. “I like the good location, the proximity to the bus stop, the playground and the games room with table tennis,” says Sabine, who accompanies the ski camp in Engelberg as a teacher.

Energised for the day
After a good night’s sleep, everyone heads to the breakfast buffet the next morning. There’s something for everyone here: Muesli, bread, spreads, juice and hot chocolate – the perfect energy boost for a long day on the slopes. “The class thoroughly enjoyed the food. The breakfast was great,” says the high school teacher.

Slopes during the day, team spirit in the evening
While skis play the main role during the day, the evening is all about team spirit and the lounge is transformed into a lively stage. The class has prepared various themed evenings – from film quizzes and karaoke to creative games. “Funny, loud, sunny. That’s how I would summarise the camp.” Sabine has been a high school teacher for 29 years and regularly chaperones the Goldach School ski camp.

From camp planning to unforgettable moments
The Swiss Youth Hostels help schools plan their class camps. “I think the fixed rates for schools are great,” says Sabine, also mentioning the useful information on the website, which made preparations for the ski camp easier.
“Lost ski poles, a spectacular game of chess on the stairs or an accidental photo shoot for curious tourists from India – there’s plenty to talk about during the week-long camp,” recalls the high school teacher with a grin.

Farewell with sunshine in our hearts
After five days of sun, snow and fun, it’s time to say goodbye. The journey home on public transport goes smoothly and in the end we feel like we’ve experienced something that will stay with us for a long time.
“Yes, I’d love to come back!” says Sabine. After all, the ski camp in Engelberg was not only a sports adventure, but also a week full of friendship, experiences and stories to be told for a long time to come.
