Wellness, good food and Saas-Fee
Spontaneous visit to Lake Blausee
The wellness getaway starts in the car, in a cosy jogging outfit and with freshly baked banana bread for on the road. The trip from Zurich to Saas-Fee via Bern takes time, but as the saying goes: The journey is the destination. With good conversations, a short lunch break in the Kandertal valley and the joy of discovering new regions of Switzerland, time flies by. With the words “Stop the car! We’re at Lake Blausee,I’ve always wanted to go there!” we make another spontaneous detour.

To wellnessHostel4000, of course, where else?
Once we’ve parked our car in the multi-storey car park at the outskirts of town, it’s only a five-minute walk to see it in all its glory: wellnessHostel4000. The idyllic atmosphere of the car-free mountain village gives us a warm welcome. Behind the large window on the ground floor are the charming bistro and reception area. The hostel in Saas-Fee features 51 rooms: 4- to 6‑bed rooms, family rooms, barrier-free rooms and double and twin rooms. We stay in a double room with shower/WC and have a beautiful view of the village – free of charge.

Hand in hand through Saas-Fee
Although we’re very much looking forward to some wellness, we’re drawn outside in this weather. We explore the village and enjoy the time together. The traditional wooden houses on stilts, called “stadelhäuser” meaning barn houses, are built in such a way that they are protected from moisture and pests. At Summit Coffee & Lounge, we start with a coffee, then enjoy a romantic aperitif on the sun terrace, all with a wonderful view of the snow-covered four-thousand-metre peaks. We can’t complain!

In love with apple cake
As soon as we arrived, we immediately caught sight of the freshly baked apple cake in the hostel’s bistro. After our walk, it was still there in the display case, tempting us, and we were thrilled. The terrace leaves nothing to be desired. While the sweet apple cake melts on your tongue and the sun’s rays warm your skin, pure relaxation sets in.

Time for wellness
Our absolute highlight is the wellness area at Aqua Allalin. The view from 1,900 square metres is simply breathtaking. There is a Finnish and a biosoft sauna opposite each other. In between you will find a warm stone pedestal and three footbaths. The sensory showers are located at the heart of the wellness area: Summer rain, icy mist, mountain stream and waterfall. Respect to anyone brave enough to enter the icy mist. Time flies as we explore the different areas barefoot and wrapped in our cosy, warm bathrobes.
You will find the admission prices here.

Dinner at the hostel
After so much relaxation, hunger soon catches up with us. wellnessHostel4000 not only offers apple cake, but also Yoummi food and drink. You can enjoy a delicious three-course dinner for CHF 19.50. We have rice with vegetables and tofu, accompanied by a mixed salad – and because one slice a day is simply not enough – a piece of lemon cake for dessert. Everything tastes great, and now we can fall into bed relaxed.

Morning swim in the whirlpool
We head back to Aqua Allalin in the early morning. Another highlight is the whirlpool, which gives you a direct view of the gorge and the panoramic bridge. After the jacuzzi, you can rehydrate with a cup of water or tea. In this atmosphere, the emotions are guaranteed to bubble up.

Wine and candlelight
If you want to end your getaway with a dinner outside the hostel, Saas-Fee is synonymous with good food and outstanding service. At restaurant Chez Roli, we experience exactly that and savour a romantic meal with exceptionally friendly staff. The vegetarian game dish is delicious, especially the chestnuts. A glass of wine, what a perfect way to round off our trip.
