Five unbeatable tips for your holidays in St. Moritz

Holidays in the mountain paradise of St. Moritz are anything but ordinary. These are our tips.

The picture-perfect holiday village of St. Moritz is known, for example, for its magnificent mountains, the Olympic bobsleigh run and the iconic White Turf horse race on frozen Lake St. Moritz. But adventurers, animal lovers and action freaks will also get their money’s worth in the birthplace of winter sports. We’ve put together our favourite experiences for you:

1. Skijoring

Do you love skiing and horseback riding? Perfect, then you should definitely try skijoring. Enjoy as the majestic animals pull you through snow-covered winter landscapes at lightning speed. If conditions permit, you can even cross the frozen lake. You don’t need any special skills for the activity; you just need to be able to brake safely on your skis. A breathtaking experience!

2. Madulain ice trail

Calling all ice princes and princesses: The Madulain ice trail takes you from Madulain to the neighbouring village of Zuoz. A perfectly groomed three-kilometre walk on blades awaits you along the partly frozen Inn and through snow-covered forests. Bring your own skates or hire them from a local sports shop. You will find a cash desk at the starting point just after the works yard in Madulain. It costs five francs for adults and is free for children.

3. Arrival by Rhaetian Railway

Travelling by train is rarely so beautiful! On the way from Chur to St. Moritz, you take the Albula Line. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Rhaetian Railway. Along the way, you pass through numerous tunnels and viaducts, accompanied by magnificent views of the mountain landscape, deep gorges and barren cliffs. It is therefore highly recommended to travel to St. Moritz by train. Thanks to the spectacular scenery, the journey is very entertaining and you hardly want to disembark at your destination.

4. Cross-country skiing in a new dimension

240 kilometres of cross-country trails in the Upper Engadine – it’s simply unbelievable. Whether beginner or advanced, classic or skating, there really is the perfect route for everyone. On narrow skis, you can explore numerous side valleys, landscapes and the four frozen lakes – Lake Sils, Lake Silvaplana, Lake Champfèr and Lake St. Moritz – and soak up the sun. There are also special dog trails where you can take your beloved four-legged friend with you.

The prices for this effective outdoor workout are also attractive: A day pass costs 10 francs, while the season pass is available for 80 francs (70 francs in advance sales) and a weekly pass costs 30 francs. A course is recommended for important tips on getting started or as a refresher after the summer break. Simply book these group or private lessons at the cross-country skiing centre. Our tip: Book a 4‑day cross-country skiing and yoga camp with us. This highlight is even more fun with like-minded people.

And once you’re done being active, local partners offer gastronomic delights and culinary diversity with their stands. Let’s go!
