Youth Challenge 2023: Introducing the «Kompanen»

This summer, we are sending four teams on an unforgettable journey through Switzerland. Who are the four adventurers – the Kompanen?

The «Kompanen», what does that word bring to mind? Compass? Companions? Well, both aren’t entirely wrong. We are four young adults embarking on an adventurous journey through Switzerland as part of the Youth Challenge. Find out who’s on this team here.

Dario

Ciao, I’m Dario and I’ve put together this group of «Kompanen.» I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun with this wild combination.

I come from the video and photography field and work as a video producer and photographer. In the past I’ve produced videos and photos at festivals, concerts and events.

I’m really looking forward to this trip with Vanessa, Sebastian and Cyrill. My role will definitely be filming, as I can’t handle a compass. I’ll leave that to Cyrill, the map expert.

Even though I’ve lived in Switzerland my whole life, I’ve seen far too little of the country. That’s why I’m all the more excited to discover new places and experience unforgettable adventures. The Swiss Youth Hostels are ideal for this kind of trip. We’re close to people and can make new friends.

We’ve planned quite the ambitious trip. Are we really going to be able to tick off everything on our agenda? I hope so, of course. If not, we sure won’t keep that from you. My goal is to document this journey ideographically in videos, in an as authentic and exciting a way as possible. Then I don’t mind if things don’t go according to plan. I once heard that fails are good for clicks. 😉

Vanessa

Hey, I’m Vanessa and I’m a proud member of Team Kompanen. I’m ready for any adventure and can’t wait to get to know Switzerland better.

A year ago, I set myself the goal of visiting every main town in Switzerland. In the process, I discovered many beautiful places. However, I realised that Switzerland has much more to offer. The remote places offer impressive views with their natural beauty.
In the team of the compañeros, I am the helper for everything. I will help with filming and photography as well as map reading. I also still check our written texts and posts on Instagram.

In my spare time, I have been playing the piano for twelve years and am passionate about theatre. I love putting myself in different roles. The best feeling on stage is when the audience starts laughing and applauding. The reaction of the audience is close to my heart, and I look forward to the comments on our posts during the journey.
I am excited about the realisation of our planned journey, especially about our idea with the compass. The compass is supposed to show us the way, but can we arouse the interest of the viewers with it? Are our fans looking forward to following our compass with us every day? We will see!

Cyrill

My name is Cyrill. My job among the Kompanen is to always follow the needle.

I discovered my wanderlust at an early age. I travel around the world a lot in my free time, not least because of my job as an aircraft mechanic. I also travel a lot in Switzerland. Our beautiful mountains keep inviting me to hike. I’ve been to many regions and yet I’m only familiar with a small part of beautiful Switzerland.

In my free time, when I’m not out and about, I play handball. I’ve been really into sports for over 12 years. I’m now also involved as a coach for the junior league. I’d say it doesn’t take much to make me happy. I prefer youth hostels to hotel complexes. If there isn’t any youth hostel around, I can deal with a tent.
I’m really looking forward to our trip. I enjoyed organising it and can hardly wait to make it a reality. I’m excited about the new places I’ll get to know. And for the youth hostel life, of course. Sitting by the campfire and making new acquaintances.

Sebastian

Helllooo helllooo, I’m Sebastian and I’m the fourth member of the Kompanen.

I love meeting new people and sharing stories. I think our openness will make us some acquaintances during the trip.
When I’m not on the road, I can usually be found in a gym. I’ve been doing gymnastics for 13 years now. Besides sports, I like to be creative and let off steam with my camera. Whether photography or filming, this has always been a passion of mine.

Thanks to my job, I’ve already been able to discover many places in Switzerland. Each time, I was fascinated by the beauty of our country. I’m particularly interested in the mountains. I find the magic and mystical grandeur they radiate exciting. That’s why I’m always happy to be out and about in the mountains. In the future, I want to take much more time to discover this beauty.
I was immediately on board for the trip. Adventures are fun and are usually best when things don’t work out perfectly. We have a tight schedule. I’m keen to see what the trip will bring and whether we can stick to it. In any case, I can’t wait to get going and document our adventure and share it with you.

We are all so excited to be able to embark on this journey. Best of all, we can take you with us. Simply follow @swissyouthhostels on Instagram or check out the blog here. We’ll keep you posted.
